John W. Morgan was an American film composer based in Los Angeles, California. He was also known for restoring and re-orchestrating classic film scores for several labels and frequently worked with composer William Stromberg and with a number of soundtrack labels, including albums for BuySoundtrax and Dragon’s Domain Records.
John W. Morgan was best known as a leading reconstructionist of vintage film scores in partnership with composer/conductor William T. Stromberg. He also worked orchestrating for composers such as Fred Steiner, Bruce Broughton, and Alex North. In 1979, Morgan composed and orchestrated his first feature film, The Aftermath, and in the ensuing years, he composed music for more than twenty feature films, as well as many television, radio, and cable projects.
Morgan’s love and passion for the great scores of Hollywood’s golden age led him to arrange and reconstruct many classic scores for new recordings. With his expertise in transcription and orchestration and Stromberg’s capability as a conductor, the pair has been involved in restoring significant film scores for new recordings for both Marco Polo (Naxos) and BMG Classics, allowing numerous rare historical and artistic film music in many genres to be recorded and released, many in complete form, often for the first time.
